Reigning champions Inter Milan climbed to the top of the Serie A table after a comfortable 3-1 win over Napoli at the San Siro. Star striker Samuel Eto'o gave Inter the lead shortly after the start before fellow summer signing Diego Milito doubled the advantage inside five minutes and another new boy, Lucio, made it 3-0 inside the first-half to end the game as a contest. Early pacesetters Sampdoria came unstuck for the first time this season as a strong Fiorentina side condemned them to a 2-0 defeat. Young Montenegro star Stevan Jovetic gave the home side the advantage and Alberto Gilardino struck in the second-half to wrap up the three points for la Viola. AC Milan's less than stellar start to the new season continued as they were beaten away at Udinese. Antonio Di Natale gave the hosts a surprise lead with a left-footed strike after 22 minutes and the hosts held on to close out a shock win. Valeri Bojinov gave Parma the lead against Lazio in the Stadio Olimpico but a penalty from Mauro Zarate levelled the scores. However, the visitors took the lead again when Nicola Amoruso scored from the spot after Lazio defender Aleksandar Kolarov was shown a red card on the stroke of half-time and the second half produced no further goals. Fans at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in Sicily witnessed a thriller as Palermo played out a 3-3 draw with Claudio Ranieri's Roma. Matteo Brighi opened the scoring for the visitors before Palermo turned things round to lead 2-1. After a Roma equaliser, Antonio Nocerino edged the hosts ahead but a late penalty from Francesco Totti ensured the spoils were shared. Newly-promoted Livorno continue to struggle in the top-flight and were easily defeated 2-0 by Bologna with Marco Di Vaio scoring the decisive goal. A late strike from substitute Anderson Miguel Nene was enough to secure Cagliari's first win of the season against Bari. Bottom side Atalanta finally opened their account but could only manage a drab goalless draw with Catania. Siena and Chievo also failed to find the back of the net as they played out a 0-0 stalemate. A late header from David Trezeguet earned Juventus a battling 2-2 draw at Genoa in Serie A on Thursday. It was the first time Juventus had dropped points in five matches this season but they still moved level with champions Inter Milan at the top of the table on 13 points. Striker Vincenzo Iaquinta had put visitors Juventus in front after six minutes with a well-worked goal before Giandomenico Mesto equalised just after the half hour. Genoa substitute Hernan Crespo then nodded in at the near post to put the hosts ahead in the 74th minuted, after Iaquinta had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside, But Trezeguet then grabbed a deserved draw when the Genoa defence fell apart in the 86th minute to allow the veteran striker to score. |
